One of the initiatives closest to my heart is the Vision Scanner Project, which I am currently spearheading through the Dartford Lions Club. This project aims to screen school pupils across our region to detect treatable eye abnormalities before they become serious problems.
Why Vision Screening Matters
Many children have undetected vision problems that can significantly affect their learning and development. Early detection means early treatment — and for many conditions, the difference between catching them at age 5 versus age 12 can be life-changing.
The Project in Action
Working with schools across the area, our dedicated team of Lions Club volunteers visits schools to conduct quick, non-invasive vision screenings. The screening equipment can detect a range of conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed until they've already impacted a child's education.
Our Wider Vision Work
The Vision Scanner Project builds on the Lions Club's long-standing commitment to eye health. As a club, we also run the spectacle recycling initiative — collecting unwanted spectacles from across the community and shipping them to Lions Headquarters in Birmingham, from where they're distributed to people in developing countries who desperately need them.

As District Officer for Lions Clubs International District 105SE, I'm proud to represent our district and help coordinate these kinds of community health initiatives across the south-east. The work we do truly transforms lives, one community at a time.
Since taking on the presidency of the Dartford Lions Club — as its 52nd President, later re-elected for a second term — I've been focused on modernising our communications, growing our membership, and most importantly, increasing awareness of the causes for which we raise money.
